Glen Iris Construction Underway

Design Brief - Glen Iris

This location is a lesson in making the most of a small space. The 67 sq m area also has a challenging layout with some portions just over a meter wide and a raised deck that sits substantially above ground level. To compensate for these aspects of the site, we were careful to engage the borrowed landscape by replacing the timber paling fence with a bespoke aluminum slat fence which provides privacy from the outside but allows residents a view into the park beyond (and keeps the cat from running off when it explores the garden). Large eucalypts that could not be placed on the client’s lot are invited to become part of the tableau through considered use of void and form that draw the eye up and out of the garden. To complete the immersion, we chose a plant palette designed to attract pollinators and wildlife, making this private oasis truly a part of its broader landscape.
